Why did Mayor Monica Zoltanski DECLINE to sign the Sandy City Pledge of Fair Campaign Practices?

Dear Sandy Resident,

It’s deeply disappointing that Mayor Monica Zoltanski has refused to sign the Sandy City Pledge of Fair Campaign Practices, a document overwhelmingly approved by the Sandy City Council with a supermajority vote.

This pledge, developed to promote transparency, honesty, and civility in our local elections, is a simple but powerful commitment to running campaigns the right way - the Sandy way. This pledge includes:

  • Conducting campaigns openly and discussing issues factually and respectfully
  • Rejecting character attacks, false statements, and misleading tactics
  • Denouncing false advertising from third-party groups
  • Holding candidates accountable for the behavior of their campaigns and surrogates
  • Encouraging voter participation through truthful and respectful engagement

The pledge asks candidates to uphold basic values of integrity, decency, and respect for voters. So why did Mayor Zoltanski—who works as mayor in the very city that adopted this pledge—refuse to sign it?

What kind of campaign is she planning to run?

Why reject such a clear, community-backed standard of fairness?

Sandy residents deserve leadership that doesn’t just talk about transparency and ethics—we deserve leaders who live it. We deserve a mayor who is held to and who holds themselves to the highest standards.

While Mayor Zoltanski signed the State of Utah pledge, we are disappointed that she is the ONLY sitting elected official in Sandy who refused to sign the Sandy City pledge.

We express our appreciation to the following mayoral candidates who voluntarily signed the Sandy City Pledge of Fair Campaign Practices:
